What I want to grow this year

A lot of people have asked me what I am going to grow this year, so I thought I would write out a list of what I have decided on - for fruit, veggies, and berries. I will admit that with the amount of seed I've purchased, I feel like I'm getting a little ahead of myself... But I just have to remember... I don't have to plant a whole pack of seeds all at once. Some packs of seeds have 500 seeds or more, and I definitely don't need 500 pumpkin or cabbage plants growing all in one year! So I'm keeping all unused seeds in my cold room until next year!

All of the descriptions are straight from the Company's Website that I purchased from. Here is the list:

(Green) Bush Beans - Provider

The earliest of all of our green beans. Long, straight, round pods hang in clusters near the base of the plant which make this variety easy to pick. Heavy cropper. Plant height about 18 inches. Fine flavour and recommended for freezing. Suited for home and market gardens. Maturity of 50 days.

Beets - First Crop
Early, uniform maturity. Nicely globe-shaped, tender and sweet, with an attractive deep red colour. This Vesey's exclusive is ideal for the home garden or for bunching for early market. Excellent tops for beet greens with fine flavour and good colour. Extra early maturity at 45 days. Sized seed.

Broccoli - Premium crop
Large, firm dark green heads with small bead. This hybrid has the ability to hold its quality longer on the plant than most varieties. Good for freezing and widely used by processors and home gardeners. Maturity is approximately 55 days from transplanting.

Brussels Sprouts - Jade Cross
Popular early maturing variety. Deep green sprouts are spaced closely on medium sized plants. High yield of firm, oval-shaped, medium size sprouts. Holds well in adverse weather. An excellent variety for fresh market or for processing, but good for the home gardener too. Maturity approximately 100 days. Approximately 100 seeds/pkg.

(Red) Cabbage - Super Red 80
This highly rated hybrid has solid, medium-sized dark red heads. An early variety with superior peppery flavour. Tolerant to Tip Burn and somewhat tolerant to Black Rot. Resists splitting. Good storage ability. Maturity 80 days.

(Nantes) Carrots - Napoli
Extra early hybrid. Bright 7-8 inch, slightly tapered roots have excellent sweet flavour topped with strong, dark green tops. In a recent 'carrot taste test' our staff chose Napoli as our absolute best tasting carrot. Fantastic as an early bunching carrot due to its sizing up at least a week earlier than other varieties. Extra early maturity at 55 days. Approximately 1100 seeds/package.

(Nantes) Carrots - Sweetness III
An improvement on a Vesey’s favourite. Sweetness III has great carrot flavour, earliness, and yield and is very tolerant to bolting. A smooth, dark orange 8” carrot that is great for the home garden and ideal for early bunching. Maturity 70-75 days. Approximately 1000 seeds/pkg.

(Imperator) Carrots - Arrowhead

Arrowhead offers sturdy roots that resist cracking and splitting and long, strong 16-18" tops, suitable for mechanical harvest. Maturity 60-65 days. Approximately 900 seeds/package.

Cauliflower - Symphony
What a performer! This late season hybrid is suitable for summer and fall harvests. Large upright, vigorous plants have excellent self-blanching capabilities which allow for a short banding period.
